Vietnam is drenched in tradition, both in their way of life, and in their celebrations of life. It is a chance to stay at home and spend time with loved ones. Most of the celebrations of Vietnam Holidays are held on different dates, changing from year to year to match the lunar changes. The citizens of the country are not the only ones that celebrate the holidays. Those that have migrated to other countries and have adoptive children that are Vietnamese also enjoy the rituals.
Tet, the Vietnamese New Year is one of the most joyous of celebrations to the Vietnamese people. It is that time of the year when every house is to be cleaned and freshly painted, when debts are paid and lots of food is cooked. Tet is the celebration of the New Year by the lunar calendar. This means spring has arrived and everything is new.
Tet is one of the few holidays recognized by Vietnam that is a lunar holiday. The dates of several traditional holidays often change yearly according to the phases of the moon. Tet will arrive anywhere from the latter part of January to the early part of February.
There are many more holidays that are set by the phase of the moon. For instance, the Trung Thu is the celebration of autumn and it is on a different day each year, depending solely on the moon phase. It is, however, almost always held in September. Another holiday that moves dates is Confucius…. ‘ birthday.
There are a few holidays celebrated by Vietnam. Their Independence Day is always at the same time of year, September 2. May 1 is otherwise known as Labor Day, and it too is a national holiday.
Vietnam. ’s culture is rich and colorful. To experience this for yourself, visit the country during the celebration of Tet or Trung Thu. Women usually dress in bright yellows and reds, while the men dress in all black. It is the celebration of the phases of the moon controlling the earth.
