I must allow this is a very subjective list. We’ve all seen many varieties on this subject, from the “top ten romantic getaways” or “ten hot spots for adrenaline junkies.” As any writer acknowledges, people are drawn to lists, specially when dealing with world traveling. After all, daydreams is one of the most integral parts of the travel planning process (and a lot more fun than edge crossings). In this light I meekly provide my lead ten traveling goals.
New Orleans. After burning to the ground twice in the 1790’s, New Orleans inherited as much a Spanish influence as French. This wonderful (albeit slightly smelly) city is the home of jazz great Louis Armstrong, and a delicious fusion of Spanish, French, Caribbean, African and American cuisine. While there, you simply must have dinner at Tommy’s, which remains one of my favorite restaurants in the world.
Christchurch, New Zealand. Many people fly into Auckland when visiting New Zealand, which is an unlucky introduction to this extraordinary state. Once you escape the “big city” head to the real deal: Christchurch. Here you can delight special pub fare, some hard core rugby fans, classic art galleries, beautiful botanical gardens, and a secret own known as “The Wizard” who shows up in the town square every day at midday to preach his theories, from feminism to astrophysics.
Cork, Ireland. As we have seen with Christchurch, Cork trumps Dublin as the darling city of the Emerald Isle. The theatre is this town is incredible, and you can catch a show every night of the week at a wide variety of locations.
Sydney, Australia. As a native San Franciscan, I must admit there is no city in the world that can equal its character, diversity, and liberal attitude… with the elision of Sydney (and their weather is better!).While there I highly recommend the Kings Cross area for dancing, Darling Harbor for walking, and Manly Beach for laying in the sun (the water is so warm, you can even float in it at night).
Amsterdam, Netherlands. Simply put, there is no site in the world like Amsterdam. Despite its randy reputation, there are a wide variety of museums and art art galleries (the Van Gogh gallery and Anne Frank museum are among the best).
San Francisco, United States. In my belief, San Francisco is the greatest city in the United States. You can still catch a glance of the sixties on Haight Ashbury, stroll along the Golden gate Bridge, enjoy delicious Cantonese cuisine in Chinatown, and cruise out to the island of Alcatraz, a former prison house that housed Al Capone. Of all the locations available, San Francisco was the first one to make my name.
Kathmandu, Nepal. This city is at formerly a glimpse into the past, and also a fortune to watch a nation fighting to define itself amidst assassinations of royal members, and the constant threat of Maoist rebels. From Kathmandu, you can either select to trek in the Annapurna (closer, but more crowded) or the Everest (farther, but not as crowded) regions.
Key West, United States. Find out for the naked bars! This town is all about sun, fun, and fuddle. No question the likes of Jimmy Buffett and Ernest Hemingway were appealed to this wonderful island off the Florida coast. You should consider taking a sunset cruise, or take part in the eve farmers market downtown.
Paris, France. This is the most extraordinary city at night time. Take your time in the City of Light; while it may be a bustling metropolis, there is a little, casual way about life here. Make sure you check out the Louvre museum (a day trip in itself) and Notre Dame Cathedral, an outstanding instance of Gothic architecture.
Rome, Italy. All roads go to Rome, and rightfully so. This impressive goal still stays a wonder to travellers, with such highlights as the Coliseum ( built in 72 AD), the Spanish Steps, and of course, St. Peter’s Basilica. I highly apprize you to wear your best walking shoes, as the first way to watch Rome is on your own two feet. There are my top 10 traveling destinations. As I referred earlier, this name is entirely subjective (what list of this magnitude isn’t?), and it is my hope that you will find aspiration for your next trip. I look forward to hearing about it!
