On Sundays, head to Rocklea Sunday Discovery Markets where you will find an array of bargains such as second hand books, handmade soap, cupcakes and gourmet dog treats! All stalls are undercover and there is a great selection of breakfast options including bacon and eggs, German sausages and Greek yogurt. Its easy to walk around despite there not being a real order to the dozens of stalls so its best to look at them all incase you miss a bargain. The atmosphere is very relaxing with live music playing and wonderful food smells, its a great way to spend a lazy Sunday morning.
City Farmers Market fills the outdoor space of Reddacliff Place in front of Brisbane Square (opposite the casino) every Wednesday from 11am till 6pm.You can expect to see bread, freshly made pasta (made in front of you), rich quiches, frittatas and pies. Lots of organic and gluten free items are available and of course there are the divine selections of cheeses, dips, olives, and cupcakes not to mention all the fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. Reddacliff place is not shaded or well covered but it seems very popular with the staff from local businesses on their lunch breaks. The vibe is not as relaxed as a weekend market but the produce is still fabulous to the taste buds.
The Young Designer Markets is an addition to the Sunday Lifestyle Market in South bank precinct on Ernest Street. It features some of Brisbane’s best up and coming designers and artists who sell a range of locally designed and made goods including fashion, home wares and accessories. The standard of the market is high with many ambitious designers applying for the coveted 40 stalls. Designers to watch are Mike Harris from SUGOI. He uses natural cotton in an electric mish-mash of prints inspired by Brisbane’s summer months, music and love of the surf; Sasha and Troy Strebe from DEBRIS BLANC, a label created through their love of all things vintage. They have personally handmade over 1000 pairs of one-of-a-kind jeans and all their items ate exquisite. You never know, one day a piece you buy at this market for a bargain price may be worth hundreds when the designer finds fame in the world.
Tamborine Mountain Market is held the second Sunday of each month at Showground’s on Main Western Road. With ample wondering room, live performances, pony rides and a play are, it is the perfect Sunday morning location for families. They offer a variety of fresh produce, plants, herbs and flowers, arts and crafts and clothing. If you’re hungry you can go to the stalls and purchase fresh coffee, Dutch pancakes, German sausage, olives or jacket potatoes. Witches Chase Cheese Outlet and Mount Tamborine Boutique Brewery are located nearby so afterwards visit and make the day complete.
