Great Lakes And Mountains Walking Holidays

There are many lakes and mountains walking holidays to be found in Europe. These walking holidays bring you face to face with some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. It is possible to find a walking holiday that explores one country or you can transverse across many different ones. Generally each day is spent walking to your next destination and you are afforded plenty of times to stop and view the scenery. Feel free to spend an extra day in one spot to explore some of the other activities.

One of the best spots for a walking holiday is in Slovenia as this country contains many fertile valleys, impressive mountains and pristine forests. In the backdrop of each walk you will see the Julian Alps. On a walking holiday you will be able to explore spots that are off the tourist track and visit the tiny villages with the ancient architecture or walk up into the mountains for some breath taking views. It is up to you to decide on the difficult of your walks as you can climb mountains or enjoy strolls around the many lakes.

An example of an itinerary for a walking holiday around Salzburg includes your city or origin. You can have a day to explore the Austrian city. The next day a suggested circular walk through the countryside that offers spectacular mountains views is suggested and you will enjoy lunch in a historic restaurant overlooking an emperors holiday home. The next day take an 8kn walk to the nest town which ends with a steamboat ride across the lake.

Besides Europe there are many other countries that offer spectacular walking holidays. In North America you can do the Appalachian Trail, which will take you several months during the spring, summer or fall. New Zealand is known for its long distance hikes and individuals travel from around the world to do the Able Tasman track, Milford track, Queen Charlotte track and many more.

There are many other lake holidays that can be very relaxing and you can combine a lake holiday with a walking holiday. Northern Italy has over 300 lakes, the majority of which are popular tourist destinations. Switzerland and France are covered with lakes that offer spectacular views and a variety of activities.
